Is it possible to solve a Rubik’s Cube in 0.887s? What’s immpossible for human , it’s seems to be like walk in a park for robot:)

On 23rd of January 2016 the robot named “Sub1” solved a Rubik’s Cube in 0.887 s at the Cubikon store in Munich in Germany. Constructor of the Sub1 is engineer and economist Abert Beer. The world record has been approved by Guinness World Records offically on 18th of February 2016.

A Sub1 robot with the support of the laptop and two webcams was able to identify all colors of the cube and calculated a solution. Cameras took two pictures that showing each three sides of the cube and the solution was passed through a microcontroller board that orchestrated the moves of robot.

All it looks very simple; you just need to push the start button… But the truth is that the invator of Sub1 put a lot of work and time to create the robot and accomplish the task . The real key to that success was Herbert Kociemba’s Two-Phase-Algorithm. Robot Sub1 needed only 20 moves to set a new record.
