Waterproof and Anti-corrosion Drone For Mission Impossible

Meet CRACUNS- The Corrosion Resistant Aerial Covert Unmanned Nautical System or shortly a anti-corrosion and waterproof drone for aerial and underwater missions from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.

CRACUNS was designed to  be operated under the water and in the air. Thanks to innovate solutions this waterproof drone is capable to stay in depth of several hundred feet of corrosive, salt water .

The components of CRACUNS are designed to stay as dry as it possible. The most exposed to soak parts- motors, were tested under the water for two months , with no signs of corrosion. It was possible thanks to protective coatings designed by the APL team (a team responsible for leveraged advances in additive manufacturing and novel fabrication techniques) The APL team was also responsible to create a lightweight, submersible, composite airframe.

CRACUNS has attracted a lot of sponsors. CRACUNS’ low cost makes it expendable, allowing for the use of large numbers of vehicles for high-risk scenarios.
