LIPO Explosion ! See why you should be careful using LIPO batteries
The correct name for this type of battery is lithium-ion polymer, but today we simply call them lithium polymer even though they are not a true DRY type LiPo battery.
LiPo batteries require proper care !!!
Charging, discharging, and storage all affect the lifespan/performance!
Also OVER DISCHARGING IS THE NUMBER ONE KILLER OF LIPO’S!!!
A 3.7 volt RC LiPo battery cell is 100% charged when it reaches 4.2 volts. Charging it past that will ruin the battery cell and possibly cause it to catch fire! Always store your LiPo at 3.85 volts per cell! And keep checking the volts per cell every 6 months.
3.30V and less means cell is dead
12.6V — 100%
12V — 84%
9.90V and less means battery is dead
Also If you will charge your battery to 4.2v what is 100% for LIPO , battery will live about 200-400 cycles. But if you will charge your LIPO battery to max 4.1V per cell, it could reach even 2000 charging cycles.

Someone heard something like a “fart” inside the plane while it was chargin their LiPo batteries, a bit of smoke went of the cowl, so, we had to take out the plane… then BOOOOOM!! FIRE!!, EXPLOSIONs!!, MORE FIRE!!, WALLET PAIN and more…
After draining the lipo until the motor stopped (without BEC)… 24 hours in salt water …. short circuit in the water bath (still smoke) … and physical damage… still big smoke!
NEVER COPY with a fully charged lipo – a possible explosion could be the results.
BUT… finally the lipo after all this torture and another 24 hours in salt water is ready to be disposed of!

Had 2 zippys that were broken, so why not destroy them?
The first one is a 2s 5800mah 30C with a dead cell..
The second one is a 5000mah 3s on 25c.. it was puffed, so I would not use it, but it was fully charged…

UPDATED 14/11/2013 I did a small test to see how a cheap cashbox would hold up to a burning lipo. This was done with a fully charged 3S 2100 MAH lipo battery and the results gave me confidence to use this method for charging and storing my batteries….
A few people have asked how many batteries can be stored together in this cashbox, I cannot answer this question and am hesitant to voice my opinion as this is the internet after all. All I can say is that I own three batteries with similar capacities to the one in the video and I am happy to store them together but always charge them separately.
